I’ve been thinking about seeing a dermatologist to help fix my acne scars. Is there anything he’ll prescribe? What will he do?

I’ve had acne for about 4 – 5 years. Would seeing a dermatologist be the best thing to do? or should I just try different products that are on the market? Also, I’m always embarassed to talk to my parents about this sort of thing, so if I should ask to see a dermatologist, how should I do it?
