Acne Scar Treatment – 6 Types you Must Know

Monday, May 31st, 2010

Acne is a skin problem typically occurred as a result of clogging up skin pores by dead cells mixed with skin oils. Acne scars are typically categorized under three heads, as described by Jacob et al (2001). According to this categorization system, icepick, rolling and boxcar are the three types of acne scars prevalent worldwide. Icepick is the type of acne scar that refers to as a sharp narrow scar resembling like punctured with an icepick. This type of scar is narrower than 2mm and is lengthened through the deep dermis or subcutaneous layer.

Icepicks can not be cured with regular skin resurfacing treatments such as laser resurfacing or dermabrasion as because they are so deep down through the skin. Rolling scars are typically occurred on the subcutaneous tissues below normal appearing skin. These types of scars can be treated by rupturing up the subcutaneous fibrous bands. The third category on the list is boxcar scar which is generally found on the skin as a round to oval depression along with sharp vertical edges. This article sheds light on various segments associated with the acne scar treatment and its usages.

In practice, there are several methodologies that can be used as a mode for acne scar treatment; however, you need to be selective by analyzing its probable risks and benefits. In some cases, doctors and dermatologists prefer to recommend a combination of treatment, rather than using any single acne scar treatment. Let us explore few effective acne scar treatment procedures. Dermal Fillers

There is a wide range of dermal fillers that can be recommended by dermatologists ensuring to provide a smoother look on the skin. It is injected on the skin to make the surface raised. Typically, human collagen, polytheyl-methacrylate micropsheres with collagen, bovine collagen, hyaluronic acid derivatives and fat are used as dermal fillers. However, these fillers do not offer any permanent solution, hence further injection is necessary. Laser Resurfacing

Many skin problems get cured by laser surfacing. Two types of laser surfacing are commonly used – carbon dioxide and erbium: YAG. It follows the mechanism of skin burning of outer skin layer to a specific depth. The healing process is followed with a restructuring of skin texture using newer appearing skin. The post-operative phase matters a lot for ensuring the actual success of the surgery. Punch Excision

It is essentially used in boxcar and icepick types of acne scar treatment. A punch biopsy tool is used as according to the size of the scars. Scars are expunged with the help of the punch tool and the open skin edges are stitched up together. This newly developed scar however fades in time. Skin Graft Treatment

This is an extended part of punch excision, a type of acne scar treatment. In this method, open skin edges are not stitched up rather the scar area is grafted with skin taken from the back of the ear. At the post-operative phase, variation in color and texture may be noticeable; however, it can be corrected successfully using laser resurfacing technique. Punch Elevation

In this method, a punch biopsy tool is used to remove the base of the scars. After removing, the punch tool is used to elevate the base and to attach it to the surface area of the skin. This acne scar treatment is beneficial in terms of reducing the risk of getting skin in different color or texture. Subcutaneous Incision

This method is particularly useful for treating rolling scars. It works by breaking the fibrous band which is responsible for developing rolling scars. The process is done using a beveled needle below the skin. It is kept parallel to the skin surface and then the needle gently cuts tethering bands. There are mainly two apparent risks associated with this procedure. One is bleeding and the other one is development of subcutaneous nodules. However the possibility of risks can be minimized with appropriate medications.

Acne scar is formed when the injuries, bruises or burns caused by acne or pimples on the skin are getting healed. Though most acne or pimples heal without leaving any scar, some severe acne leaves scars, pits, uneven skin on healing. As pimples mostly affect face, scars and pits look unsightly. Acne scar has denied so many people their natural beauty. In most cases, it makes some people look like masquerade when they wear makeup. This does not have to be like that. The good news is that there is 100% and permanent cure for acne scars. The knowledge of the types of acne scar with which you are afflicted will help you immensely in your fight to get rid of acne scar very fast. I have outlined the types of acne scar below.

ACNE SCARS

1.    Boxcar Scars: they resemble the scarring caused by chicken pox. They are oval shaped depressions with sharp edges. These are most commonly found on the cheeks and temples.

2.    Ice Pick Scars: the name of these scars is got from the shape of what you would see if you attacked a piece of wood with an ice pick: shallow or deep pitting with steep sides and jagged edges. They are most commonly found on the cheeks.

3.    Hypertrophic Scars: these are small, red bumps that appear in the damaged area. It is not only acne that causes this kind of scar; any kind of wound can cause it also. But the truth is that they normally fade overtime. Though Hypertrophic scars are similar to Keloid scars, keloid scar continues to grow indefinitely. A keloid scar is not dangerous, non-contagious, but usually accompanied by severe itchiness, sharp pains, and changes in texture. In severe cases, it can affect movement of skin. The fact that Keloid scars never stop growing makes them a real cosmetic nuisance even though they are not dangerous. These can appear anywhere on your body.

4.    Rolling Scars: these are caused by tissue damage beneath the skin. They resemble a rolling hillside and are most commonly found on the cheeks and forehead.

Knowing the types of acne scar around makes it easier for you to find a better solution. There is a lot of homemade solution to get rid of acne scar but many times the treatment for the acne scar may worsen the condition. Hence, you have to find the most reliable means of getting rid of your acne scar.

Everything you Must Know About Acne Scars

Saturday, December 26th, 2009

Acne scars are ugly, and it is unfortunate if the person has it on their face. Some acne does leave miserable scars on the face and body, but luckily there is treatment for these types of scars. It is essential that a person being treated for the acne scars does not have active acne anywhere else on the face. Acne scars might occur if you keep pinching the acne on your face and try to break it or squeeze it out.

Even persistent acne is capable of leaving a scar on the face. There are different kinds of scars which occur on different people. The kind of treatment for the scar totally depends on the kind of scar. One type of treatment cannot be applied to all the scars. Sometimes cosmetology is recommended for severe scarring, or if the scars are too big. Cosmatic surgery is not usually recommended for small scars or single marks, but it is left at the discretion of the person who has the scar. Getting rid of acne and the scars it causes is a complex process and a lot of treatments are adapted to cure it. These kinds of treatments include punch techniques, laser acne treatments, and injections or augmentations are also used. Until recently, the reason why acne leaves scars was not very clear. Sometimes acne just dries up on the skin and ends up scarring the face.

Scars are not very pleasant to have, and they spoil the looks of a person. If it is on the face, then it is far worse. Women especially face a lot of problems due to acne as they are more susceptible to getting it and they are more likely to have acne scars. For women it is more important to look good as a lot of confidence comes from the way they look. Because of the acne scars they don’t mind getting a surgical remedy even for the tiniest blemish.

Make Your Skin Healthier Easily!! A Must Read on How to Remove Blackheads

Saturday, October 17th, 2009

A blackhead, formally an “open comedone”, is one of the most common skin problems. They form because of clogging of the pores in the skin. Because of the clogs, oil can’t get out the natural way and gets stuck. Regardless of how smooth your skin is, chances are that you have at least some blackheads in your face – most commonly, your nose. Getting rid of blackheads is healthy as it opens up the pores and clears the clogging. However, you do need a good and natural method of how to remove blackheads, or you might damage your skin permanently.

The “steaming method”, applied correctly, is one of the healthiest methods for facial skin care. It not only removes blackheads, but also is very healthy for your skin and will greatly reduce the number of skin defects – such as acne and pimples – you are going to have in the future.

How To Do It

This is very similar to the steaming method used to treat colds. The first thing you are going to do is to find a medium sized pot, in which you are going to boil some water. Some people prefer adding a little bit lemon into the water – both for its refreshing smell and effect, and for the extra cleansing effect of lemon’s acidic properties.

After the water boils, you’re going to put the pot on a table, lean down and look straight down on it. Your face has to be close to the pot. Also, you want to put a towel over and around your head that covers the perimeter of the pot, so that your face will *only* be exposed to the hot steam from the pot. Remember to breathe deeply.

Stay in that position for a brief period of time – 4 or 5 minutes maximum. You should sweat. Gently “brush” your face with a cloth, but you don’t need to dry your face. After that, add some cooler water to the boiling pot – because now you are going to apply that hot water directly on your blackheads to remove them. Hot is good, but don’t injure yourself – your blackheads all have been exposed to boiling hot steam anyway. Apply the hot water on your blackheads via a cotton pad. Press on your blackheads gently and wringle them out of your skin.

Why and How It Works

The steaming method helps your skin in several ways.

First, the clogging which causes all your acne-blackhead related problems is, to a great extent, caused by dead skin cells blocking the oil’s way out. With applying boiling hot steam, and brushing your face afterwords, you are removing the dead cells from your face, which will result in brand new skin with newer and healthier pores. This will decrease your future skin defect problems to a great extent.

Second, the heat from the steam enforces heavy blood circulation on your face – which will also help cleaning the pores and renewing your skin.

Third and last, because of the heat you are going to perspirate heavily which also has a positive effect on clearing the pores.
