Although I would care for my skin with utmost regularity and zest, one thing that would always mar the look on my face was a bunch of tiny little black dots around the lower portion of my nose and lower-forehead. These would look prominent on my wheatish complexion and I would look for ways through which I could get rid of them permanently.
But I soon realized, that although permanent riddance from these dots, commonly called, blackheads, may not be possible, given the nature of their being. Their occurrence can however, be treated and I can get a blackhead free skin with regular care.
Just what are these black dots?
To begin with, let’s understand what exactly blackheads are, which are also called comedones, and why are these so hell bent on spoiling our looks. Well, contrary to popular understanding, blackheads are not really pores with trapped dirt, rather they are pores of the skin that are blocked by oil deposits and dead skin cells and when the dead skin gets exposed to air, the spot turns black. Though these can be seen on the chest, back, and other parts of the body they are more prominent on the face.
As we can neither prevent the sebaceous glands from secreting oil nor can we actually stop the pollution around us, there can be no permanent solution to wipe off blackheads from our lives. The best we can do is to reduce the frequency with which they hit us and treat them to keep them from showing on our skin.
Why me??
Now that you know who these punks are, your next question would be, why me?? Well, while some of us would have no blackheads at all, most of us have hordes of them concentrated on some parts of our bodies, very often it is the face.
The difference lies in the skin types. Blackheads are more prominent on oily skin and even those with a T like combination skin, who have an oily nose and forehead part see blackheads form. Add to the already oily condition, the rising levels of pollution, and you had it! However, those with dry skin too suffer from blackheads, as their dead skin cells accumulate faster.
Personal Hygiene:
All the more if you are the lazy sorts, not even washing face twice a day, then sorry, no donut for you! Those stubborn black pranksters love dead skin cells, areas of the skin which are exposed to dirt and pollution. Hence, remember to wash your face with a natural face wash or soft soap at least twice a day.
Don’t be harsh:
You may want to get rid of them and so you would go all the way to hound them, but remember: Don’t squeeze blackheads with your nails, don’t pinch them, don’t tweeze them yourself with a plucker, as these can cause swelling in the affected area, redness and also pain. Moreover, if you try tweezing them with your nails, it can also lead to skin infections.
Also, laser treatments that are available in upmarket skin clinics that assure you of closing in the follicles so that blackheads don’t ever show up, may not always be foolproof. Besides being expensive, these are artificial methods which come with their set of problems in later stages. Hence the best option is to stick to natural ways for more effective results.
