A Step By Step Guide On Popping Blackheads

Friday, October 22nd, 2010

Popping is not always the best way to get rid of blackheads. For, many a times, it could lead to worse consequences in the form of increased infection and permanent scarring. Therefore decision to go or not to go for it should solely lie with you. Those who have slightest of doubts regarding the results of extracting or popping pores should simply debar the popping. And the others who want to remove blackheads with this method should first educate them on this.

Firstly, The Basics

There are 2 different types of blackheads- dark and light. They are mainly caused by overproduction of the sebaceous glands and clogging of skin pores with dead skin cells. Many things give rise to blackheads and whiteheads like disorder of hormones, inappropriate eating habits, improper sanitation and hygiene conditions and excessive use of make up. So you can also try to eliminate these causes to reduce blackheads in the long run.

Next, The Caution

Popping blackheads can be very dangerous as the oil and bacteria can spread to other parts of the face and thus give rise to a swarm of blackheads. Also, sometimes permanent scarring or blemishes can occur. So, proper care and attention is very important to keep your skin clean and free of any pores.

Finally, how to pop/extract blackheads?

The first step in popping or extracting blackheads is to soften the comedones. It can be done with the help of a hot water compress or  steaming the affected area. The best method to take facial steam is to fill your basin with hot water and then take the steam. Or, you can also use a wet warm cloth for the purpose.

These will loose your comedones and your skin will become ideal for popping. Now to pop the pores out put the looped side of the extractor and encircle the blackhead. Apply pressure on the blackhead and let the infected material come out. Do this slowly and do not exert extended pressure. A persistent pressure can lead to infection and scarring.

Do not keep pressing for the hard stubborn blackheads. It is better to leave them for expert handling. Also, never use your nails for extraction. This is a very fine way of increasing the infection.

In case of a whitehead, use the pointed end of the tool until the pore breaks open. After it opens, gently encircle it over the whitehead. You have to be more careful while extracting whiteheads as they are too small and inside the skin. If misplayed, they could turn into more inflamed than the blackheads.

As for very deep pores, leave them untouched and visit dermatologist instead. He will remove them with the help of a sterilized needle, depending on the condition of your skin breakout.

When finished, apply some disinfectant or antiseptic cream over the operated area. Sterilize your tools both before and after the application.

Popping blackheads have often been criticized by experts. But if performed diligently, as mentioned above, you will not harm yourself. Time and patience are the key to solve these kind of problems. So, a little wise effort from your side and you are all free of acne pores.

Jenny Jones – My Six Step At-Home Facial

Wednesday, August 11th, 2010

Jenny Jones ( www.jennyjones.com ) shows you her Six Step At-Home Facial. A handy text version is below. 1. Cleanse. Use your favorite cleanser or mild soap. I use Cetaphil, which is inexpensive and available at the drug store. Work the cleanser in for a minute or so, then rinse with a warm, wet washcloth. 2. Scrub. Use a very fine scrub and not one that’s grainy and harsh on the skin. Gently go over your face, avoiding the eye area (that skin is very delicate). Focus more on your oily areas like the nose or T-zone. Household baking soda mixed with water into a paste works well. So does sugar & water but it’s a little harsher. Rinse with a warm, wet washcloth. 3. Steam. If you have one of those at-home steamers, great, but if not, just fill the sink up with very hot water, then put your face over it and cover up with a towel for about five minutes. Try to block any openings so steam won’t escape. You may have to drain and re-fill the sink again for continued steaming. This opens up your pores for the next step. 4. Blackhead Patrol. I can’t do this without a magnifying mirror. Now gently remove any blackheads but don’t just squeeze them! Use either a blackhead extractor or one of those Biore strips that you put on your nose wet, wait 15 minutes, then peel off. Be careful not to traumatize your face. (ps you won’t get many blackheads if you keep your skin clean.) 5. Mask. For my combination skin, I prefer a clay mask because it really cleans and makes my skin glow. Apply
